Facebook is a huge part of my business.
It’s consistently my biggest referrer of web traffic. And most people who fill out my Hire Form tell me they found me on Facebook.
Well, I realized recently that I’m often asked by my biz friends (and clients!) - “how’d you do that?” So I decided it was time to share a few of my fav pro tips for FB!
1) HOW TO GRAB A POST'S PERMALINK:
I often have people ask me how I'm able to grab and share a direct URL to a specific Facebook post.
It's so simple! Under the name of the poster, click the timestamp. (This will usually say Just Now or something like 2 hrs.) Your window will refresh and you can copy the permalink (in other words, the updated URL) from the address field in your browser.
This is really convenient for saving a post you'd like to reference later. I also use it often if I'd like to direct a client to
2) HOW TO SKIP THE COMMENT 'FOLLOWING', BUT STILL GET UPDATES ON A POST:
We've all seen folks do this - and most of us have probably done it ourselves!
We see a post in a Facebook group that seems really interesting. So we comment following in order to be sure we see any future responses on that post. This can make a most feel busy with a lot of comments that don't really add any value.
Instead, simply click the arrow in the top right of the post and select Turn on notifications from the drop down menu. You'll now be notified of any other responses - and you won't have to leave a comment!
3) HOW TO PIN A POST TO YOUR PAGE:
Pinning a post to the top of your Facebook Page is a really helpful feature for your biz. You can use this during launch times, or when you have a special discount on your products or services.
When your followers visit your Page, the pinned post will remain at the top until you shut it off. (No matter how many other real-time posts you publish!)
To pin, just click the arrow in the top right of your post and select Pin to top.
When you're ready to remove the post, click the arrow in the top right again. This time, you'll see the option to Unpin, and the post will fall back in it's regular place in your feed's chronological order.
4) HOW TO FIX THE PREVIEW IMAGE WHEN IT'S SHOWING THE WRONG THING
Facebook's Debugger is a really handy tool when you're noticing your preview image is displaying incorrectly.
You'll just need to grab the URL you're trying to share, enter it into the Debugger field and click Debug. On the next screen, you'll click Fetch new scrape information.
I've noticed that I sometimes need to click Fetch again. But give it a try and when you share the link again, your preview image should be corrected!
